DANCEVERSE 2026

DANCEVERSE 2026 was a dance workshop series organised by the Lavasa Dance Academy with the aim of bringing together students, faculty, and members of the university community through the shared language of dance. The initiative was created to encourage participants to pursue their passion, explore different dance forms, and experience dance as a space for creativity, learning, confidence, and connection. More than simply a series of dance sessions, DANCEVERSE was envisioned as an opportunity for individuals to step away from their regular academic routines and dedicate time to something they enjoy and are passionate about.

The workshop series featured a diverse range of dance styles, allowing participants with different interests, backgrounds, and levels of experience to take part. The sessions included Salsa, Freestyle, Bollywood, Hip-Hop, Bhangra Semi-Classical, and Dance Fitness. Each workshop had its own character and approach, giving participants the opportunity to experience different forms of movement and expression. The variety of styles also encouraged participants to step outside their comfort zones and try forms that they may not have explored before.

The Salsa session introduced participants to the basics of the dance form while focusing on rhythm, coordination, movement, and partner interaction. It provided an engaging introduction to a style that may have been unfamiliar to many participants. Through simple movements and choreography, participants were able to understand the importance of rhythm and coordination while enjoying the process of learning something new. The Freestyle session offered participants a more open form of expression. Unlike styles that follow a particular traditional structure, freestyle allowed individuals to explore movement in their own way and develop their confidence through self-expression. The session encouraged participants to focus on enjoying the movement rather than being concerned about performing perfectly. This made it accessible to both beginners and those who already had experience in dance.

The Bollywood Freestyle and Hip-Hop workshop brought together energetic choreography, expressive movements, and performance-based elements. The combination of the two styles created an engaging environment where participants could experiment with different movements while developing their coordination and performance skills. The session also highlighted how different dance styles can come together to create an enjoyable and dynamic learning experience.

The Semi-Classical workshop explored the connection between traditional Indian dance and contemporary expression through a combination of Kathak and Bharatanatyam. Participants were introduced to elements of both classical forms while learning choreography that brought aspects of the two styles together. The workshop provided an opportunity to appreciate the discipline, expressions, movements, and cultural elements associated with Indian classical dance while experiencing them in a more accessible workshop format.

The Bhangra session introduced participants to the vibrant and high-energy folk dance of Punjab, focusing on lively footwork, shoulder movements, and rhythmic expressions that capture the spirit of celebration. Participants learned basic steps and choreography that highlighted the joyous and dynamic nature of the form, allowing them to experience the cultural roots of Bhangra while enjoying its energetic and uplifting character in a workshop setting. The series also included a Dance Fitness session, which combined exercise with dance-based movements to create an energetic and engaging experience. The session demonstrated that dance can also be a form of physical activity and a way to incorporate movement into everyday life. By combining fitness and dance, participants were able to stay active while enjoying the energy and enthusiasm that comes with moving to music.

Beyond learning choreography, DANCEVERSE placed significant emphasis on the overall experience of participating in dance. The workshops encouraged students to interact with one another, learn collaboratively, and become more comfortable expressing themselves. Dance created an environment where participants could learn without the pressure of being perfect. For beginners, the sessions provided an opportunity to try something new in a welcoming environment, while experienced dancers could refine their movements, explore different styles, and share their enthusiasm for dance.

Another important aspect of DANCEVERSE was its emphasis on pursuing one’s passion. University life often involves academic responsibilities, assignments, examinations, and busy schedules, leaving limited time for personal interests. Through DANCEVERSE, participants were given a space to pause from their regular routine and dedicate time to an activity they genuinely enjoyed. The workshops reinforced the idea that pursuing a passion does not always have to be separate from academic life; instead, extracurricular interests can contribute to personal growth, confidence, creativity, and overall well-being. The initiative also contributed towards creating a stronger sense of community through a shared interest. Participants from different backgrounds and levels of experience came together with a common interest in dance. The workshops created opportunities for people to meet, learn from one another, and enjoy an activity together. This sense of participation and interaction helped make each session more than just a class, turning it into a shared experience within the university community.

DANCEVERSE also highlighted the inclusive nature of dance. Dance does not require everyone to have the same level of experience or ability. Every participant could engage with the sessions at their own pace and find their own way of expressing themselves. Whether someone was attending their first-ever dance workshop or already had experience in multiple styles, the sessions offered an opportunity to learn, participate, and enjoy the process.

The enthusiasm and participation throughout the series reflected the interest in creating a stronger dance culture within the university community. DANCEVERSE provided a platform where dance could be explored not only as a performance activity but also as a means of self-expression, learning, recreation, and connection. It demonstrated how a shared passion can bring people together and create experiences that extend beyond the classroom. Ultimately, DANCEVERSE 2026 was more than a series of workshops. It was an invitation to move, explore, express, and make time for the passions that bring individuals joy. Each session offered participants something different while contributing to the larger idea that dance can be experienced by everyone, regardless of their previous experience. Through every beat, movement, and interaction, DANCEVERSE celebrated creativity, confidence, collaboration, and the courage to try something new.

The initiative left behind more than choreography and workshop experiences. It created moments of participation, learning, laughter, expression, and connection. Most importantly, it encouraged individuals to take a step towards something they enjoy and to recognise the value of making space for their passions. In that sense, DANCEVERSE represented not just a celebration of dance, but a celebration of the people who choose to pursue what makes them come alive. Sometimes, all it takes is the courage to take the first step—and DANCEVERSE was a space where that first step could begin.
