Workshop on Data Analysis using Power BI

The Department of Commerce, School of Business & Management (MBA), CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, organized a workshop titled “Data Analysis using Power BI – From Data to Decisions” on 18 September 2026 at Christ College, Pune. The workshop was conducted from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM and focused on developing participants’ practical understanding of data analysis and visualization using Microsoft Power BI.

The workshop was organized with the objective of helping participants understand how raw data can be transformed into meaningful information and insights for effective business decision-making. In the present business environment, organizations increasingly depend on data to evaluate performance, identify trends, understand customer behaviour, and support strategic planning. Therefore, knowledge of business intelligence and data visualization tools has become an important skill for students pursuing management and commerce education.

The session was facilitated by two industry professionals from Synechron, who brought practical industry perspectives into the academic learning environment. Mr. Neeraj Siddhey, Technology Specialist, Synechron, and Mr. Dhirendra, Technical Lead, Synechron, served as the resource persons for the workshop. Their professional experience enabled participants to gain a better understanding of the practical applications of Power BI and its relevance in contemporary business and organizational settings.

During the workshop, participants were introduced to the role of Power BI in the data analytics process. The session emphasized how datasets can be transformed into interactive reports and meaningful visual representations. The theme “From Data to Decisions” highlighted the importance of connecting technical data analysis with managerial decision-making. Participants learned about the value of presenting information through suitable visualizations to identify patterns, trends, comparisons, and key insights more effectively.

A significant aspect of the workshop was its industry-oriented approach. Interaction with professionals from Synechron provided participants with an opportunity to understand how analytical tools are applied beyond the classroom. The session helped demonstrate how technical competencies in data analysis and visualization can complement knowledge of business, commerce, and management. Such exposure is valuable in preparing students to understand workplace expectations and the increasing role of analytics in professional decision-making.The involvement of industry experts also helped bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace expectations. Sessions of this nature provide students with exposure to contemporary analytical tools used in organizations and help them appreciate how technical skills can complement their knowledge of business, commerce, and management. The workshop therefore served as an opportunity for participants to strengthen their understanding of data visualization while gaining awareness of the practical applications of business intelligence.

The workshop also aligned with the institution’s emphasis on industry-led learning and employability-oriented education. By bringing corporate professionals into the academic environment, the event encouraged participants to explore contemporary tools and practices relevant to the evolving business landscape. It also created an opportunity for students to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications and appreciate the importance of analytical thinking in business contexts.

Overall, the Workshop on Data Analysis using Power BI provided a focused and application-oriented learning experience. The combination of Power BI exposure and interaction with industry professionals helped participants develop a clearer understanding of business intelligence and data visualization. The workshop reinforced the importance of developing data analytics capabilities alongside domain knowledge and encouraged participants to approach business information through a structured, data-driven perspective.
