INAUGURAL CEREMONY AY 2026-2027
A New Beginning: Inauguration of MSc Data Science, BSc and BCA Programmes 2026–27.
A new academic chapter began with enthusiasm, hope, and a sense of purpose as the Department of Statistics and Data Science and the Department of Computer Science formally inaugurated the MSc Data Science, BSc, and BCA programmes for the academic year 2026–27. Held at the Central Block Auditorium from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the ceremony welcomed the admitted students and set the tone for a journey of knowledge, discovery, and personal growth. The programme began with a welcome by Dr. Lekha J, Programme Coordinator, who greeted the dignitaries, faculty members, students, and guests. In her address, she highlighted the School of Sciences’ vision of nurturing academic excellence while creating a learning environment where students are encouraged to question, collaborate, explore ideas, and grow as individuals. The traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp marked the beginning of the proceedings. With the dignitaries and a student representative coming together to light the lamp, the ceremony symbolised the shared journey of educators and learners and
the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment. An interfaith prayer service added depth to the occasion, reflecting the institution’s commitment to inclusivity, harmony, and mutual respect. Faculty members led readings from the Bhagavad Gita, the Holy Quran, and the Holy Bible, along with reflections on the teachings of Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara. The prayers offered blessings for the students’ academic journey and highlighted the values of unity, peace, compassion, and service. The formal address by Dr. Fr. Lijo Thomas, Dean and Director, encouraged students to make the most of their university experience. Welcoming the new cohort, he emphasised the importance of integrity, discipline, commitment, and continuous learning. He reminded students that education extends beyond classrooms and examinations, encompassing character, responsibility, leadership, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to society. The occasion was further enriched by an inspiring keynote address from the Chief Guest, Mr. John J. Thomas, Associate Senior Vice President & Head – Bancassurance (Private Banks), Bajaj General Insurance. Drawing attention to the changing demands of the world, he encouraged students to build a strong academic foundation while developing adaptability, competence, communication skills, and strong personal values. He emphasised that a successful career is shaped not only by knowledge but also by discipline, character, purpose, and a commitment to lifelong learning. The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Tiny S. Palathara, Programme Coordinator, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, students, and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the programme. The gathering then came together for the singing of the Christ Anthem, symbolising unity, belonging, and the beginning of a new chapter. As the new students stepped into their academic journey, the inauguration left them with a simple yet powerful message: learn with curiosity, grow with confidence, lead with integrity, and strive for excellence. The event marked not merely the beginning of another academic year, but the start of a transformative journey filled with possibilities, challenges, learning, and growth.
