The Debut – Freshers’ Night of School of Science
The Debut – Freshers’ Night 2026, organised by the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Data Science and Statistics, School of Sciences, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, was a vibrant and memorable welcome programme for the newly admitted students. Held on 9 September 2026 from 6:00 PM onwards at the Activity Hub, Central Block, the event marked an important first step in the students’ journey at the University.
With the theme “Step In. Stand Out. Shine,” the programme was designed to provide first-year students with a warm, engaging, and inclusive introduction to campus life. It encouraged freshers to overcome their initial apprehensions, interact with their peers and seniors, and participate actively in the social and cultural environment of the University. The presence of academic leadership, faculty members, senior students, and freshers created an atmosphere of encouragement, interaction, and celebration.
A major highlight of the evening was the participation of senior students, who presented a series of energetic and entertaining performances for the freshers. Their performances added vibrancy to the programme while creating an informal and welcoming environment for interaction between senior and junior students. The involvement of seniors also provided opportunities to demonstrate leadership, creativity, teamwork, coordination, and event-management skills.
The programme featured several competitions and interactive activities that encouraged first-year students to participate beyond the classroom. These activities provided platforms for students to express their creativity, communication skills, confidence, and individuality while developing new friendships. The engaging nature of the activities helped students overcome initial hesitation and become more comfortable in their new academic environment.
One of the key attractions of the evening was the Mr. Fresher and Ms. Fresher competition. The competition provided participants with an opportunity to showcase their personality, confidence, communication abilities, creativity, talent, and stage presence. Through the different rounds, students were encouraged to present themselves confidently and engage with the audience. The segment added a distinctive and memorable element to the evening while contributing to the development of interpersonal and presentation skills.
The event also strengthened senior–junior interaction, which plays an important role in building a supportive and inclusive student community. Informal interaction enabled freshers to become familiar with their seniors and contributed to a stronger sense of belonging. The programme demonstrated how student-led activities can complement academic learning by providing opportunities for peer engagement, collaboration, leadership, and social participation.
The active involvement of faculty members and academic leadership further contributed to the success of the programme. Their presence conveyed support and encouragement to the new students while fostering a positive relationship between students and the institution. The event brought together different members of the University community in a shared space of celebration and relationship-building.
The Debut also reflected the University’s commitment to holistic student development. Alongside academic learning, opportunities for cultural participation, communication, teamwork, leadership, and interpersonal development are essential in preparing students for their future roles. The Freshers’ Night provided a platform for students to participate, perform, collaborate, and confidently engage with their new surroundings.
Overall, The Debut – Freshers’ Night 2026 served as a meaningful and memorable welcome for the new batch. Through performances, competitions, interactive activities, and the Mr. Fresher and Ms. Fresher segment, the event promoted confidence, creativity, communication, teamwork, peer bonding, and a strong sense of belonging. More than a celebration, The Debut represented the beginning of a new chapter at CHRIST, encouraging every fresher to step into university life, stand out through their talents, and shine as an active member of the campus community.
