The Department of Statistics and Data Science presented CIPHER, a multi-round technology event held on 18 and 19 September 2026 at Christ College, Pune. Hosted by the MSc Data Science students of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), the event brought participants of the Department of Computer Science, Christ College, together for four challenges: CEREBRO, Treasure Hunt, CODEX and REELITY. Each called for a different combination of knowledge, teamwork and creativity, giving students several ways to put their ideas into action.

CEREBRO, the quiz competition, tested technical knowledge, logical reasoning, problem-solving and quick decision-making. Participants worked through challenging questions and a case-based round before reaching the final challenge. Team FusionX secured first place, represented by Thomas Philip Koshy and Samiksha Munot from SYBSCCS. Infinity Byte placed second, with Roy Brahmane, Mansi Singh and Gracy Waghmare from TYBSCCS. Third place went to Nexacore, represented by Neelisha Fernandes and Disha Biswas from TYBSCCS. The competition rewarded teams that could think clearly together and respond under time pressure.

Treasure Hunt turned the campus into a clue-solving adventure. Teams decoded puzzles, navigated different locations and completed challenges as they followed a trail of cryptic clues towards the final treasure. Neocrypt, from the group Future Flux, won first prize. Its members were Kevin Shibu, Riya Susheel, Jessmon Regi and Saniya Attar. Novatech, from the group Supernova, won second prize, represented by Lamisa Khan, Arushi Munot, Anaya Fernandes and Rishi Gaikwad. Third prize went to Nocturne, from the group Nexacore, whose members were Namer Khan, Humera Naro, Tanishka Jagta and Shaur Nadas PP. The activity gave participants a chance to combine observation and reasoning with the practical challenge of coordinating their next move as a team.

CODEX, the coding challenge, invited participants to tackle an assigned problem, develop their own approach and build an efficient solution. The challenge placed value on creativity, problem-solving, algorithmic efficiency and code quality. Novatech won first place, represented by Anjali Varma, Tinu Thomas and Tejas Mudailla from SYBSCCS. FusionX secured second place, with Kisan Mandal, Suraj Rawat and Clyde Cardoz from TYBSCCS, alongside Simran Patan from FYBSCDS. Another Novatech team placed third, represented by Shruti Bandla and Manish Bhore from TYBSCCS and Saud Shaikh from FYBSCCS. The results reflected the participants’ ability to move from an idea to a working solution while making thoughtful choices about their code.

REELITY, titled “Ideas in Motion,” offered a creative way to capture the CIPHER experience. In this short-form video challenge, participants used storytelling, visuals and editing to represent the event through a reel. It added a different dimension to the programme, allowing students to communicate the energy of CIPHER through a medium they could shape in their own style.

Across the two days, CIPHER gave students opportunities to answer, explore, build and create. The four events showed how technical learning can extend beyond a classroom exercise: a strong answer may require discussion, a solution may need several attempts, and a creative idea becomes stronger when a team works together. The Department of Statistics and Data Science congratulates all the winners and appreciates every participant who contributed to CIPHER 2026.
