Guest lecture on Risk Management at Corporate level

Bridging Theory and Practice: Industry Insights on Corporate Risk Management

CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune City Campus, organised an industry-led guest lecture on **Corporate Risk Management** for students of the **MSc Global Finance & Analytics (GFA)** programme. The session was attended by 19 postgraduate students and was conducted from **10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon**. The initiative was designed to provide students with practical industry exposure and help them connect academic concepts in risk management with the realities of corporate decision-making.

Corporate organisations today operate in an environment characterised by financial uncertainty, technological disruption, regulatory changes, geopolitical developments and rapidly evolving business models. In such an environment, effective risk management has become an integral part of strategic decision-making. The session provided students with an opportunity to understand how organisations identify, assess, monitor and mitigate a wide range of financial and non-financial risks.

The industry professional brought a practical perspective to the classroom by sharing insights from corporate practice and discussing how risk management frameworks are applied in real-world situations. The session highlighted that effective risk management extends beyond identifying potential threats; it involves understanding the interrelationships between different risks, evaluating their potential impact and supporting management in making informed decisions.

A key focus of the session was the increasing role of **data, analytics and quantitative techniques** in contemporary risk management. As MSc GFA students are trained in finance and analytics, the discussion helped them appreciate how analytical tools and data-driven approaches can support risk identification, early-warning mechanisms, monitoring and strategic decision-making. The session also highlighted the importance of combining quantitative analysis with professional judgement and organisational understanding.

The interaction with the industry professional provided students with an opportunity to explore contemporary corporate risk challenges and understand how organisations respond to uncertainty. The discussion and question-and-answer segment encouraged students to engage with the speaker, clarify concepts and relate classroom frameworks to practical corporate situations.

The session also contributed to students' understanding of the professional competencies expected in the fields of **corporate risk management, financial analytics and finance**. Exposure to an experienced industry practitioner enabled students to gain insights into workplace expectations, emerging areas of risk and the importance of analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

The guest lecture reflects CHRIST University's emphasis on **industry-integrated learning**, where academic knowledge is complemented by practical exposure and professional interaction. Such engagements provide postgraduate students with opportunities to move beyond textbook-based understanding and develop a more contextual view of their discipline.

Overall, the session strengthened the connection between **academic learning and industry practice**, while providing students with valuable perspectives on the evolving nature of corporate risk management. The initiative also reinforced the importance of sustained academia–industry collaboration in preparing students to contribute effectively to the dynamic global finance and risk-management landscape. The session reaffirmed that meaningful industry engagement can transform classroom learning into practical insight, empowering students to approach complex financial and corporate risks with greater confidence and professional awareness. The engagement marked another meaningful step towards preparing future finance professionals to navigate uncertainty, make informed decisions and create value in an increasingly complex corporate environment.
