Meet & Greet – Readers Connect

The Readers Club, in collaboration with the Library & Information Center, organized “Meet & Greet – Readers Connect” on 5 September 2026 at the Gazebo, Central Block, Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune–Lavasa Campus. The one-hour programme brought together 15 Readers Club members and was supported by five student volunteers. The event aimed to welcome new members, encourage interaction among readers, share reading interests, and strengthen a vibrant reading community on campus.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the participants, followed by an introduction by Miss Harshita Mathur, President, The Readers Club. She introduced the vision and objectives of the club and explained its role in developing a passion for reading, promoting literary engagement, encouraging knowledge sharing, and providing a welcoming platform for students to connect through books.

Miss Harshita also highlighted the various activities conducted by The Readers Club, including book reviews, reading campaigns, book exhibitions, literary competitions, author interactions, and other reading-focused initiatives. She further shared the future plans of the club, including upcoming events and activities designed to increase student participation and encourage reading beyond academic requirements.

A major highlight of the programme was the inspiring session by Prof. Vijay Sonavane, a former senior HR professional with experience in various multinational companies and a PhD Scholar at Christ University. His session, titled “Read to Rise: Unlocking Opportunities Through Reading,” focused on the importance of reading in personal, academic, and professional development.

Prof. Sonavane highlighted how regular reading can enhance knowledge, critical thinking, communication skills, creativity, confidence, personal growth, and continuous learning. Drawing from his professional experience, he connected reading with career development and encouraged participants to develop reading as a lifelong habit rather than viewing it only as an academic activity.

The programme also provided members with an opportunity to introduce themselves, share their favourite books and genres, discuss reading interests, and exchange book recommendations. These informal conversations created a friendly and inclusive environment and helped new and existing members develop stronger connections with one another.

The interaction also strengthened the relationship between The Readers Club and the Library & Information Center by encouraging members to actively participate in future library and literary initiatives. The event demonstrated how informal conversations around books can create a sense of belonging and encourage students to become more engaged with reading activities.

The formal programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Santosh Maruti Ankush, Coordinator, The Readers Club. He expressed gratitude to Prof. Vijay Sonavane, the University leadership, faculty members, Library & Information Center, organizing team, student volunteers, and Readers Club members for their support and participation.

Following the formal programme, an informal interaction with Prof. Vijay Sonavane allowed members to continue the conversation and exchange ideas related to reading, career development, and personal growth.

Overall, “Meet & Greet – Readers Connect” successfully created a welcoming platform for readers to connect, communicate, learn, and share their passion for books. The programme strengthened the Readers Club community, promoted lifelong reading, and encouraged members to actively participate in future initiatives. It reinforced the idea that reading connects people, develops perspectives, and supports continuous personal and professional growth.
