Inaugural Ceremony of Peer Education Batch 07
How Peer Education Batch 07 Sparked a Compassionate Wellness Wave at Lavasa
A circle of eager students exchanged determined nods as the room filled with an electric sense of purpose. Behind every badge pinned and oath taken lay a shared commitment: to ensure no peer walks alone. The vibrant atmosphere proved that empathy is more than just a buzzword here—it is an active, living force driving our hillside community forward.
Organized by the Centre for Counselling and Health Services (CCHS), Christ University, Pune Lavasa Campus, the inauguration of Peer Education Batch 07 marked a significant step towards nurturing proactive student well-being across the campus. In an era where academic rigour often intersects with personal pressure, this initiative encourages students to become approachable sources of peer support. By creating an accessible bridge between the student community and professional guidance, the new cohort steps in at a crucial moment when compassionate dialogue and emotional support are needed.
The ceremony unfolded with immersive exercises on active listening, communication, emotional awareness, and peer support, along with reflections and opportunities for student interaction. The transition from theoretical empathy to practical peer support came alive as the inductees explored the importance of confidentiality, non-judgmental communication, and creating safe spaces for their peers. The session encouraged students to understand that being a Peer Educator is not about having all the answers, but about being willing to listen, support, and guide peers towards appropriate resources when needed.
Interactive activities further added energy and engagement to the inauguration. Through activities such as the Chinese Whisper Movement Activity, students experienced firsthand the importance of attentive listening, clear communication, and coordination. Another engaging activity involved participants writing one word describing their current feeling on a balloon, tossing the balloons into the air, and sharing a positive thought when catching another participant’s balloon. These simple yet meaningful activities encouraged emotional expression, positivity, peer interaction, and a sense of connection among the new Peer Educators.
Stepping out of the session, the newly inducted Peer Educators carried with them practical insights and a clearer understanding of their role within the student community. For the broader student body, Batch 07 represents an additional layer of peer connection built on trust, empathy, and shared responsibility. The programme aims to encourage students to recognize the importance of emotional well-being and to make conversations around mental health more approachable and less stigmatized.
The programme also emphasized that peer education extends beyond a single event or activity; it is a continuing commitment to being present, approachable, and responsible towards fellow students. Through interactive activities and shared experiences, the Peer Educators were encouraged to recognize the value of listening before responding and supporting without judgment. These skills can help them identify when a peer may need encouragement or professional assistance and guide them towards appropriate support systems. Batch 07 therefore begins its journey not only with knowledge, but also with a shared responsibility to strengthen connections, promote emotional well-being, and contribute meaningfully to a healthier and more compassionate campus culture.Tucked amidst the misty hills near Pune, Christ University, Pune Lavasa Campus thrives on an authentic spirit of togetherness. As Batch 07 begins its journey, the Peer Educators are encouraged to carry forward the values of empathy, active listening, respect, responsibility, and inclusion. Their role is not to replace professional counselling but to serve as approachable peers who can listen, offer appropriate support, and help connect fellow students with professional resources when necessary.
