Gender Equity and Mental Health Well-being Awareness

The Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistics & Data Science, School of Sciences, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, in association with the SDG Cell and Women Empowerment Cell, organized an awareness programme on “Gender Equity and Mental Health Well-being Awareness” on 18th September 2026. The programme was conducted by Dr. Samiksha Murkute, Psychology Educator and Homeopathic Psychiatrist, Manomay Homeopathy and Counselling Center. The programme was designed to create awareness about gender equity, mental health, emotional well-being, respectful relationships, and the importance of building an inclusive and supportive campus environment.

The programme comprised of two activities, with separate formats designed for students and faculty members. This approach enabled the sessions to address the specific needs and contexts of the respective groups while providing opportunities for meaningful interaction and reflection.

The first activity was an interactive session on “Gender Equity & Mental Health Well-being” for first year students. The session focused on developing awareness of gender equality, respectful relationships, emotional well-being, healthy communication, empathy, and inclusivity. Students were encouraged to reflect on their perceptions and everyday interactions and consider how gender-based assumptions, stereotypes, and biases can influence relationships and individual well-being. The discussion highlighted the importance of treating individuals with dignity and respect and creating an environment where everyone feels valued, included, and supported.

The interactive nature of the session encouraged student participation and reflection. By connecting gender equity with mental health well-being, the session helped students understand that respectful and inclusive relationships can contribute to a healthier educational environment. It also encouraged students to become more sensitive to diverse experiences and to recognize the importance of empathy and responsible communication in their interactions.

The second activity was a faculty-focused session on mental health well-being, conducted through one-to-one discussions. This format provided faculty members with an opportunity to engage personally with the resource person and discuss concerns related to emotional well-being, professional experiences, and student-related situations. The individualized interaction created space for reflection and allowed faculty members to consider ways of maintaining their own well-being while appropriately supporting students.

Together, the two activities created a platform for students and faculty to engage with important aspects of mental health and gender equity from perspectives relevant to their roles. The programme reinforced the values of equality, dignity, empathy, respect, inclusion, and non-discrimination within the university community.

The event also aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3, Good Health and Well-being, and Sustainable Development Goal 5, Gender Equality. By bringing together mental health awareness and gender equity, the programme contributed to broader efforts to promote a healthy, respectful, and inclusive campus culture.

Overall, the programme served as a meaningful awareness initiative that encouraged reflection, dialogue, and greater sensitivity towards mental health and gender-related concerns. It emphasized that well-being and equality are shared responsibilities and that creating a supportive educational environment requires awareness, empathy, respectful communication, and a commitment to treating every individual with dignity throughout campus life.

I particularly liked the practical way the information is presented, as it helps readers understand the topic without unnecessary complexity. Understanding financial responsibilities and keeping the relevant information organized can be useful when dealing with annual tax requirements. For anyone wanting to learn more about the process of an Income Tax Return in Christchurch, exploring the key requirements and steps involved can be a helpful starting point. Thanks for sharing this useful information!
